Quick reference for terms used across these docs — Nepal-specific business terms, and khata.tech's own vocabulary.

Nepal business terms

TermMeaning
PANPermanent Account Number — a tax identification number issued by Nepal's Inland Revenue Department. Required for most registered businesses.
VATValue Added Tax. Nepal's standard rate is 13%. Set as your workspace's default tax rate under Sales — see Roadmap & Limitations for what's not covered yet.
PAN / VAT numberThe same registration number, referred to either way depending on context — entered once in Settings.
Fiscal yearNepal's government and most businesses' fiscal year runs mid-July to mid-July (Shrawan 1 to Ashad end in the Bikram Sambat calendar) — not January to December. Set under Settings.
FirmCommon term for a sole proprietorship business, as opposed to a registered company (Pvt. Ltd.).
NPRNepalese Rupee — khata.tech's default currency.

khata.tech vocabulary

TermMeaning
WorkspaceYour business's space inside khata.tech — created once, during onboarding. Everything (products, contacts, orders) belongs to one workspace.
PartyThe umbrella term for anyone in Contacts — customer, supplier, employee, or other. "Party balance" means what they owe you or you owe them.
LedgerThe running balance and transaction history per party — see Ledger. Not a general accounting ledger; it's specifically party-scoped.
OrderA sales order — created in Sales, becomes an invoice once confirmed.
ConfirmThe action that turns a draft order or purchase order into a real transaction — decrements or increments stock, and (for sales) generates an invoice. Irreversible in the normal flow; see Settings → Advanced if something needs undoing.
Stock adjustmentA manual stock change not tied to a purchase or sale — see Inventory.
Received paymentA checkbox on a sales order marking that payment was taken — doesn't process a payment, just records it. See Roadmap & Limitations.
